In Chão dos Eremitas, at the foot of Serra d’Ossa, there is evidence of uninterrupted wine production since the 14th century. In 1397, a Papal Bull exempted the Pauperes Eremitas (monks of the Order of Saint Paul, the so-called “Paulistas”) from taxes on their vineyards, demonstrating the importance they already had at the time. This is a special place – feel it! Two streams carry rainwater from Serra d’Ossa, keeping the soil cool even during the intense Alentejo heat. From the same terroir and the same grape varieties, a new and fresh identity emerged in the batches: our “Pequeno Eremita”. Pequeno Eremita is a tribute to this unique place and to the grape varieties that once dominated the region’s wine landscape, but which have now almost disappeared.
