Vinha do Pinto is one of the first post-phylloxera plantations in the Douro Valley, having been planted around 1930.

It has more than 30 different grape varieties, which provides a highly complex wine. It emerged after Phylloxera devastated European vineyards in the mid-19th century.

The solution to replanting the vineyard came when it was discovered that surviving European vines could be grafted onto American rootstocks that were resistant to the disease.
