It was at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo that the first study for monovarietal planting in the Douro region took place. Between 1979 and 1981, together with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Douro Wine Studies Center, the best sun exposures were chosen at Quinta Nova for the study of the planting of three grape varieties Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.

Plot 29 planted with the Touriga Nacional grape variety, comprising 3300 feet and a slope of 20%, is located at an altitude between 170 and 205 meters. It represents a unique example and is a fundamental piece in the history of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in its maximum expression of terroir. A true reference in the Douro which, combined with the centuries-old vineyard (Parcel 21), results in a wine with a very elegant, almost feminine profile, contrasting with an intense structure of juicy tannins of enormous precision. The schist texture, of high gravity, the sapy profile and the purple color reflect well the nature of the Touriga Nacional grape variety.
